If you’re heading to the Brazil vs. Morocco World Cup match on June 13, you won’t be going to MetLife Stadium, at least not by name. For the tournament, the venue will be temporarily renamed “New York New Jersey Stadium,” reflecting FIFA’s rules for the event.

The change comes from FIFA’s policy of removing corporate branding from stadium names during the World Cup. The goal is to ensure that official sponsors aren’t overshadowed by companies that have paid for naming rights, like MetLife. As a result, familiar venues across North America are being given more generic names.

This isn’t just happening in New Jersey. Other stadiums are also being renamed, including “San Francisco Bay Area Stadium” instead of Levi’s Stadium and “Toronto Stadium” instead of BMO Field. In each case, logos and signage tied to corporate sponsors will be covered or removed for the duration of the tournament.

With the 2026 World Cup taking place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where most major venues have corporate sponsors, this kind of rebranding will be widespread. It may feel confusing for fans, but it reflects FIFA’s effort to control branding and maintain consistency across one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
