Two local trains collided head on in the Copenhagen region of Denmark early Thursday morning, leaving at least five people critically injured and around a dozen others hospitalized, according to authorities. The crash occurred just before 6:30 a.m. near Hillerod, a town located roughly 30 minutes north of Copenhagen. Officials said 38 people were on board the two trains at the time, and the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, deploying a large operation that included ambulances and a military helicopter. Images from the site showed significant damage to the train carriages, though they remained on the tracks. Medical officials cautioned that the number of injured could change as the situation develops, while noting that serious rail accidents are uncommon in Denmark, which is known for its reliable transportation infrastructure.
