Uganda has announced strict temporary travel restrictions with the Democratic Republic of Congo as health officials work to contain a growing Ebola outbreak. The measures include suspending flights to and from Congo, halting cross-border public transportation by ferry and bus, and pausing large cultural gatherings along the border.

The outbreak has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization, with suspected cases rising quickly and deaths reported in multiple Congolese provinces. Uganda has confirmed two cases, both involving Congolese nationals, and officials say the country remains prepared while monitoring the situation closely.

International aid efforts are also expanding, with funding and resources pledged by the United States, Britain, South Africa, and health organizations. Red Cross volunteers are going door to door in eastern Congo to educate families about prevention, including avoiding contact with bodies of suspected Ebola victims.
