May 24th, 2026 - Bomb Attack Derails Passenger Train in Pakistan, Killing at Least 14 People
At least 14 people were killed and dozens more were injured after a bomb exploded near a passenger train in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan on Sunday. The powerful blast derailed the locomotive and several train cars as the train traveled toward the provincial capital, Quetta. Authorities said many passengers were likely traveling ahead of the Eid al Adha holiday.
Officials are investigating the attack and said early evidence suggests it may have been carried out by a suicide bomber. The separatist group Baloch Liberation Army later claimed responsibility. Rescue crews and security forces worked to free survivors trapped in the wreckage while nearby buildings and vehicles also suffered damage from the explosion.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Balochistan, a resource rich region that has seen a long running insurgency. Militants have increasingly targeted transportation networks, security forces, and infrastructure projects in the province, including the Jaffer Express rail line, which has been attacked multiple times in recent years.
